Join us in celebration of Wagner's long anticipated debut album. Wagner quickly became recognized in the Portland music scene as an up-and-coming artist and has been sought after as a performer for the unique and progressive sounds her original music offers. She Sleeps, She Wakes was born from perspectives of heartbreak, struggle, perseverance, and resilience. It has been a lifelong journey to be able to externalize these emotions of Wagner’s existence. “She sleeps” represents the peace of slumber and unfiltered creativity drawn from the subconsciousness. “She wakes” is the realization of these visions into the living world. It is a dance between the two realms that has created the music that lives within this album.
The rhythm section featured on the album all contribute their unique perspectives to the music while lending humility and space for everyone's voice to shine through. Wagner chose these musicians because they all play with vulnerability and dedication to the music that has no limits. Please come with an open heart and an open mind as the music brings an energy that is undeniably contagious and sounds that may tug at one heart strings.
The Portland Jazz Composers’ Ensemble is a 12-piece jazz chamber orchestra which commissions and performs original works by its members and by other jazz composers in the Portland music community and beyond.
