Think of Holocene as the go-to dance spot on the east side, for many genres. Whether it’s shouting your heart out and jumping up and down at an Emo Nite, getting down with some of their themed dance nights or simply checking out any of the diverse showcases they house, they make it easy to enjoy it all. Some shows are all ages, some are strictly for the older crowd, but there’s definitely enough space for everyone, and a pretty chill photobooth to boot.
The Jack London Revue is the Pacific NW’s best destination for jazz and the wide variety of music inspired by the jazz diaspora. Located in the historic Alder Building in downtown Portland, OR, it combines the classic speakeasy feel of an historic basement juke joint with the modern bells and whistles of a cutting-edge modern club: Think red velvet drapery and deliciously closeup performances. Its capacity is 220, and they offer a full bar and food menu.
One of the OGs as far as Portland venues go, Mississippi Studios and its connected bar/restaurant Bar Bar are like a second home to so many in our music community here. Its greenrooms are like mini party scenes. The stage is large yet surprisingly intimate, decorated with large drums and a power-exuding gladiator painting made for many snapshots. The first in the Mississippi empire, the Portland music community wouldn’t be the same without it, and neither would any of our memories.
White Eagle is one of the oldest and longest running saloons in Portland. Echoing with tales of ghosts, mischief and mayhem, this 1905 saloon and hotel reverberates with live music and funky attitude.
