Join us for an exhilarating evening of live flamenco music and dance at Tablao Flamenco la Alcachofa! Each month brings a unique lineup of musicians and dancers to the stage at Cafe Artichoke. January's performance features special guest musician Andrew Alikanov (clarinet). With Lillie Last and Nela McGuire (dance), Yeshe Wingerd (vocals), Brenna McDonald (guitar), and Nick Hutcheson (percussion).
Andrew was born in Moscow, Russia in a family of classical musicians. He began his music studies at Moscow Conservatory Preparatory School. After moving to the U.S., he attended Esther Boyer College of Music (Temple University) and Peabody Conservatory. He has studied clarinet with Anthony Gigliotti and Ronald Rueben of Philadelphia Orchestra, Loren Kitt (The National Symphony) and Alexander Ivanov (Russian National Symphony). Living in Portland since 2006, Andrew plays in a wide variety of local and national musical groups such as Michelle Alany and The Mystics, Chervona, Portland Klezmer All-Stars, Professor Gall, Hot Club of Hawthorne, Krebsic Orkestar, Three For Silver, and Debauche (New Orleans). He has shared the stage with Gogol Bordello, Manu Chao, and Fanfare Ciocarlia. Some of the notable performances include St Petersburg’s White Nights Music Festival with Moscow Chamber Orchestra, Lincoln Center Out of Doors Festival, Global Fest at Webster Hall (NYC), Jazz Foundation of America Annual Jazz Loft Party (NYC), Festival International (Lafayette, LA), French Quarter Fest, Spring 2016 Gogol Bordello tour, 2019 State Department tour in Tajikistan and European tours with Three For Silver and Professor Gall.
